In addition to the Baby, Ante-natal and Diabetic Clinics we have access to Dietetic, Counselling, Podiatry and Specialist Drug Counselling Services. In order to access these you will first need to see the doctor.
You can refer yourself to a physiotherapist without seeing a doctor first: pick up a leaflet from reception.
Feeling down or worried? You can refer yourself to the Gateshead Primary Mental Health Service if you live in Gateshead by telephoning 0191 283 2541.
Contraceptive services and treatment for women
Apart from the pill, and injections, Sunniside Surgery can provide implant and IUCD services for women, in-house. These include contraceptive implants that go just under the skin, and intra-uterine treatments, that last from 3 to 10 years depending on the situation, and the device used. These include Mirena, Jaydess, and Nexplanon. These can be discussed in a consultation and fitted at another appointment, whenever most suits you. Please make an appointment or arrange a telephone discussion with Dr Helen Murrell.
Mirena can often be used very successfully to treat heavy periods but a consultation prior to the fitting is necessary as some women need tests carrying out beforehand. We have been providing this service for over 3 years and have a very high satisfaction rate with the service.
Sunniside surgery also offers this service to women who are generally patients at other practices, and come to us just for this aspect of treatment. This can be arranged through the women’s own practice.
